Every garden has its roots—and in Garden of Second Chances, mine begin with a group of beautifully flawed, deeply human characters trying to bloom again. Each carries their own wounds and wonders, and together, they form the heart of this story about healing, hope, and new beginnings.

Here’s a peek into the souls of the people who live (and grow) in this story:

🌿 Emily Hawthorne

Emily is the quiet center of the novel. In her mid-30s, she’s returning to her grandmother’s home after enduring heartbreak and loss. With auburn waves and deep blue eyes, Emily is thoughtful, artistic, and grounded in emotion. She doesn't know it yet, but the garden she inherits will help her grow back into herself, and into something new.

🛠️ Alex

Alex is the steady, rugged handyman with a soft heart. In his mid-30s, he’s all sandy-brown tousled hair, green eyes, and rolled-up flannel sleeves. He’s grounded and kind, the kind of man who fixes more than just broken shutters. Emily may find that he knows how to hold space for her healing, too.

🎨 Maya Carter

Maya is a late-20s bohemian artist with paint on her fingers and hope in her belly... literally. Pregnant and vulnerable, Maya has fled from the past and is trying to make peace with the present. Her sandy-blonde braid and floral dress tell one story, but her resilience tells another.

🧍‍♂️ Oliver Marshall

At first glance, Oliver is all buttoned-up ambition. A clean-cut developer with hazel eyes, chestnut hair, and a blueprint under one arm. But there’s more beneath the surface. His journey might surprise readers (and maybe even himself) as he’s drawn into the garden’s quiet pull.

🌻 Maggie Ellis

Maggie is the garden’s true matriarch. She was Emily’s grandmother Cora's lifelong friend, full of nurturing wisdom and sun-drenched patience. With silver hair and a cozy cardigan, Maggie carries not just herbs in her pockets, but stories and advice that matter. She’s the kind of woman who sees straight into your soul... and loves you anyway.

🌾 Liam Wilder

Liam is the garden’s keeper in every sense of the word. Ageless, intuitive, and rooted in the rhythms of nature, Liam wears linen and leather and carries wildflowers like old secrets. He’s both a mystery and a guide, and his presence is a gentle nudge toward healing for more than one character.

💔 Mark

Mark is Emily’s husband, and though he doesn’t live in the garden, he’s a part of her story. With dark hair and a professional demeanor, Mark represents a life Emily thought she wanted, and the pain of losing it. His absence shapes her journey as much as his presence once did.
