Writers of the Lake
I had the awesome opportunity this past summer to spend a week at a lake house with two of my closest writing friends, Jordyn Meryl and Magnolia ’Maggie’ Rivers. It was probably the best thing I have done for myself in a long time.
We drove up on Sunday with a van load of food, books and our laptops with the only one goal in mind, to write. After the daunting task of unloading the van, we settled in our own individual spaces and wrote. There were no interruptions, no schedule and no itinerary to follow. It was heaven on earth.
Maggie is an earlier riser. She made coffee in the morning and enjoyed her first cup outside on the deck watching the ducks and listening to the early morning music of the lake.
Jordyn was usually the next to rise. She captained the pontoon boat which was available for us to make trips around the lake. She also selected some of the music videos which played in the background while we wrote.
I was usually the last to rise. The pleasure of being able to wake when your body tells you is a wondrous thing.
Having experienced such a glorious vacation gave Maggie the idea for the three of us begin a blog, sharing our journey to becoming published. So Writer of the Lake was born.
Maggie loved the waterlilies which were blooming beautifully on the lake in the early morning. Jordyn was captivated by the dragonflies which seemed to lead us along the lake when she was driving the boat. I seemed to find butterflies everywhere. So that is how we decided on our names.
